  • Role Overview:

    Based primarily at BCA Automotive Yeovil office, IT Technician is responsible for ensuring helpdesk calls are resolved in a timely and efficient manner, either directly or by escalating to other members of the I.T Department. Excellent communication skills are key as you will be required to work with staff at all levels of the organisation directly or by telephone and email. 

    Reporting to the IT Technician Team Leader, the post holder’s key responsibilities will be, but not limited to:

    Providing IT support and troubleshooting on site and remote locations.
    Installation of new equipment and technologies.
    Providing a high level of customer service to a wide range of users, including those with minimal IT knowledge.
    At times responsible for providing IT support and troubleshooting via telephone and remote support software.
    Liaison with 3rd party software vendors where required.
    Monitoring the helpdesk software for calls logged by staff at all sites, prioritising the calls and ensuring all calls are resolved in timely and efficient manner.
    Updating helpdesk calls with status updates and details of call resolutions.
    Where appropriate escalating calls within the team.
    Communicating with end-users based at other sites via phone and email to diagnose and resolve faults.
    Visit other sites to install new I.T hardware and resolve faults when required.
    Assisting with hardware and desktop/server software upgrades.
    Creation and modification of user accounts.
    Using network management software to monitor for hardware and network faults.


    Person Specification:

    The ideal candidate will possess: 

    Essential 

    A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent / relevant qualification) grade A to C, including English and Maths. 
    Good experience of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other Microsoft products.
    Full UK driving license, as some traveling to other locations will be required.
    Knowledge of Active Directory.
    Desktop, Laptop & Printer troubleshooting.
    Anti-Virus solutions experience.
    Data Backup Solutions.
    Proactive and self-motivated.
    Minimum 3 years’ experience within an IT Support role either internally or for an IT support organisation.
    Experience with Microsoft Windows 11, Server 2016-19, Microsoft 365.
    Working knowledge of networking protocols TCP-IP, DNS, SMTP, DHCP and VPN etc. 

    Desirable

    Excellent problem-solving skills.
    Excellent communication skills.
    A professional attitude when interacting with staff, customers, and suppliers, face-to-face and over the telephone.
    Exceptional organisational and time management skills, and able to prioritise your own workload. 
    The ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as and when required.
    The ability to work individually but also to share knowledge with other members of the team based in Yeovil and escalate issues within appropriate timeframes.
