Main purpose of the role:
- Direct the storage and parking of all vehicles on site and the movement of vehicles between the yard and the workshops, via agreed valet/wash services, so that vehicles enter and leave the workshop in accordance with the notified production routes.
- Ensure that all vehicles in the yard and workshops are correctly recorded and that all documentation associated with the yard and workshops is accurately completed, in accordance with the sites operating procedures, so that vehicles can be found when needed and so that vehicles are not left on site longer than has been agreed.
- Monitor and review the agreed budgets for the yard (such as overtime labour and damage), and take any appropriate corrective action, so that expenditure and costs for the yard area do not exceed the notified levels.
- Ensure that the company’s health and safety standards and practices are adhered to in the yard area by both company workers and by members of the public so that accidents to vehicles and people are prevented, as far as is reasonably practicable.
- Manage and develop your team to ensure that they achieve their full potential and that all departmental targets are met fully both now and in the future. This will include recruitment and retention of staff and completing regular performance reviews.
- Action any issues, queries or complaints arising so that any problems are resolved, in a timely fashion, to all parties’ satisfaction as far as is reasonably practicable. Escalate any complex issues to the relevant manager.
- Undertake ad-hoc tasks as necessary to meet the business needs and for your own personal development.
- Deputise for other departmental heads in the site as required.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Experience in a line manager or team leader role
- Experience of working in a fast-paced operational environment
- Able to demonstrate high-level organisational skills and an ability to communicate a variety of information and instruction to operational team members and first line supervisors
- Delegate responsibility appropriately and effectively
- Ability to motivate a team to deliver objectives and meet targets
- Good report generation and presentation abilities
- Able to work under pressure and to deadlines
- Strong ability to work with colleagues at all levels
- Excellent problem-solving skills
